15 Funniest Comedies Of The Last Decade
1. Hunt For The Wilderpeople (2016)
You'll be forgiven for missing Hunt For The Wilderpeople when it was first released. Directed by Taika Waititi - who has a brilliant cameo in the film as a priest - the film is a rib-tickling adventure story that follows an orphaned troublemaker who teams up with a grumpy old man to take on child services.
Although the film has the legendary Sam Neil in it - who is simply brilliant as Hec, a curmudgeon from the New Zealand outback - the film truly belongs to Julian Dennison due to his breakout performance as the mischievous Ricky Baker. Dennison steals practically every scene that he's in, effortlessly throwing out quick-witted and savage replies at every opportunity.
Little moments like Baker revealing his dog's name - which we won't spoil for those who haven't watched this yet - or watching child welfare worker, Paula, struggle to outwit Baker and Hec will have you literally cackling out loud.
Although it's arguably the funniest flick in Waititi's filmography, underneath the jokes is a deeply personal story about friendship, loss and having to deal with mistakes from the past. Thankfully, Waititi handles both tones masterfully, resulting in a brilliant movie that will stick with you for years to come.
