There are plenty of people who see Thor: Ragnarok as just a comic book movie, but doing so would be failing to give Taika Waititi's first entry into the superhero genre the credit that it truly deserves.

Unlike the two Thor films that came out before this - which were pretty dull if we're being competely honest - Ragnarok is a major departure from what we'd seen and it was needed. Waititi flipped the franchise on it's head and made it into a weird, wonderful and hilarious sci-fi caper. Luckily for him, he had an undervalued leading man in Chris Hemsworth, who further proved that he's got the comedy chops to pull of a performance like that.

While Ragnarok still has that signature Marvel Studios feel to it, it still does more than enough to separate itself from the rest of the Marvel movies they've brought out over the years. Filled with plenty of action and moments of genuine hilarity. it surpassed the expectations of those who watched it and helped change Thor into the character we love today.
