11. Death Montage - Edge Of Tomorrow
In a film surprisingly jam-packed with humour, the funniest scene is a montage as Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) trains to take advantage of his special Groundhog Day-esque gift. He asks Rita (Emily Blunt) if she's tried ever tried having sex to transmit the powers, and she says yes. Cage asks, "How many times?", at which point she kills him with a hydraulic Mimic dummy. Cue the montage as Cage repeatedly dies, being squashed against a wall by one of the dummies and injured so badly that it makes more sense to just shoot him and start again. When Cage's leg is broken, he protests, telling Rita he can feel his toes, but she doesn't hesitate to pop a bullet in his brain. As well as being a fine example of the movie's incredible editing, there's a playfulness here that ensures things never get too serious, and it's one of the few films to properly evoke a video game vibe.
