15 Good Horror Films That Totally Lost It By The End

10. Suspiria

The Film:

Most horror films are full of darkness and shadows. This horror film is a bright, Technicolor and campy affair... that is pretty bloody awesome.

A classic work from Giallo horror director Dario Argento, this overflows with style, gore and suspense, and it's a horror 'classic' that deserves to be called one. Centering on a young woman escaping a coven of witches at a dance academy, it's one of the very rare times witches have actually been scary

The Ending:

Suspiria is a huge amount of fun. It's also genuinely scary despite being so colorful and gory, but it does mess up the climax. This isn't enough to spoil the overall experience, but your elation will have evaporated somewhat by the end.

The film has a hilariously bad tagline: "The only thing more terrifying than the last 12 minutes of this film are the first 92". That's a dreadful bit of marketing but this statement is true.

The last few minutes of the film, which involve a random-feeling climax involving an old, mostly unseen witch reanimating a corpse only to be stopped by protagonist Suzy with a knife, are a significant step-down. Once the witch is stabbed, all the other witches die since they can't survive without their queen, and protagonist Suzy leaves. End of film.

Yeah, that's definitely an anticlimax. It's another reminder to hold off showing the antagonist for as long as possible, since often when they actually turn up the fear disappears.
