Yes, I know, it might sound ridiculous to say the sequel to the highest-grossing movie of all time is currently flying "under the radar", but seriously, is the average movie-goer aware that Avatar 2 is coming out next year?

A batch of sequels for the film have been in development for a decade now, with release dates coming and going and Avatar 2 being pushed back seemingly every six months or so, even when filming was set to begin. After so long spent being nothing more than a title on the page and a cast list on IMDB however, the sequel is finally in official production, and unless something drastic happens, will indeed hit its December 18, 2020 release date.

Filming has been underway since 2017, and it's only the motion-capture performances that have been completed so far - the live-action footage is set to start rolling sometime in Spring 2019. At least the movie is being filmed back-to-back with Avatar 3, so fans hopefully won't have to suffer through years of non-starts and delays before receiving another entry.
