15 Incredibly Late Sequels That Took Decades To Arrive

7. Psycho II - 23 Years

The Previous Film: Psycho (1960) Alfred Hitchcock's rug-pulling thriller essentially created the slasher sub-genre twenty years early. Notable for the first forty minutes being one massive misdirection and making showers a nerve-wracking experience to this day, Psycho is the master of the suspense at the top of his game. Much better than Vertigo. The Late Sequel: Psycho II (1983) Made three years after Hitch's death, on the face of it Psycho II seems like a shameless cash grab. Despite that, a lot of effort was put into make an effective chiller. Norman Bates has been released, assumed cured, and attempts to settle into ordinary life, only for murders to start to happen around him. Is he still crazy or is someone out to frame him? You won't see the twist(s) coming. Was It Worth The Wait? Surprisingly yes. This is probably the best sequel Psycho could have got, taking the main character in a new direction and actually exploring the effect a released killer has on a community. Psycho III and prequel The Beginning, however, just devolved into slasher boredom.
