15 Insane Shocks & Snubs From 2015 Oscar Nominations
14. Snub: Foxcatcher Misses Out On Best Picture
The good news for Foxcatcher supporters is that the movie scooped an impressive five Oscar nominations today: a well-deserved Best Director nod for Bennett Miller, Best Actor for Steve Carell, Best Supporting Actor for Mark Ruffalo, Best Original Screenplay and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Yes, that's right, despite scooping so many prestigious nominations, Foxcatcher failed to secure a Best Picture nomination. It's all the more surprising considering that, since the expanded field was introduced in 2010, this is the first year where less than nine films have been nominated. Eight films made the cut this year, so there surely was plenty of room for the sublime crime drama to sneak in at number nine. A truly baffling snub for a film that the Academy appeared to have huge respect for...but apparently not enough.
