15 Most Anti-Climactic Movie Showdowns

5. Nev Vs. "Megan" - Catfish

Catfish Nev Megan
Universal Pictures

The Showdown: Not a conventional fight in any way, but rather documentary subject Nev (Nev Schulman) heading to the home of his attractive Internet pal Megan to confront her regarding various inconsistencies that have sent alarm bells ringing for him and his friends.

The Anti-Climax: Though the movie's marketing did a fantastic job promoting Catfish as a mystery thriller with a horror film climax (claiming that "you won't believe how it ends"), the end result is actually far more innocuous and down-to-Earth.

It turns out that Megan doesn't exist and is instead the fabrication of a lonely middle-aged woman named Angela (Angela Wesselman-Pierce), who cares for her two severely disabled children and simply wanted to create an alternate life for herself online.

It's a payoff that definitely works, it's just five hundred miles away from what most people were expecting when they watched it, which was probably a psychopath who wanted to wear Nev's skin.
