Kazuo Koike is a crazy person.

The Japanese manga writer is best known for the iconic samurai series Lone Wolf And Cub, but beyond that he's penned any number of hyper-violent, totally illogical comics full of bad sex, misogyny, nonsense action scenes, blood and gore. All of which are evident in his other most famous series, Crying Freeman.

The manga, drawn by Ryoichi Ikegami (who also has a reputation for slightly gross comics), was adapted to film by Silent Hill director Christophe Gans in 1995, and boy is it a ride. American Ninja star Mark Dacascos is the titular assassin, who sheds a tear for every successful target he murders in cold blood. Aw.

Wait, not aw, that's insane! What a psychopath! Besides that being wholly inappropriate, that sensitivity somehow leads to a woman who saw Crying Freeman kill somebody eventually falling in love with him. Oh, yes, he's a murderer, but he's got feelings too. If a friend ever tells you that their boyfriend's the same, it's time for an intervention.
