15 Most Inappropriate Comic Book Movie Storylines Of All Time
10. Kinky S&M Catwoman
Batman is a character for children. He's a man who dresses in a rubber suit and cape, has a cool car, and punches clowns. Apparently Tim Burton didn't get that memo, with his two films starring the Dark Knight being increasingly sadistic and twisted; The Joker got tossed off a roof in the first film, and things took a serious turn for the kinky in the sequel.
Scripted by the writer of dark high school comedy Heathers, Batman Returns is a surprisingly complex film about political and corporate corruption. It also provided a whole new spin on Catwoman, with Selina Kyle being an out-and-out psychotic who cheats death and kits herself out in a rubber S&M suit, hitting on Batman at every opportunity.
Bear in mind the film was still marketed at kids, with all the requisite action figure tie ins and McDonalds Happy Meals. Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight films were similarly “adult”, but they didn't lead to any awkward conversations between parents and their children about how babies were made and whether it involved whips and chains.
