15 Most Overrated Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)
4. The Devil All The Time
Rotten Tomatoes: 64% (Average Score: 6.20/10)
IMDb: 7.1
What is a film that only got mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and viewers doing on a list like this, you may ask. Well, when a film this bad scores anything above 40% on RT at the very highest, it's hard not to feel like said film has been over-praised.
With its inflated length, stilted acting and dreadful writing, The Devil All the Time is a howlingly awful Netflix Original.
It's basically the cinematic equivalent of a small child trying to look cool by cursing a lot and telling loads of adult jokes, except they end up looking like an idiot. The film enthusiastically hurls morbid content and philosophical dialogue at viewers in an attempt to seem edgy and insightful, but due to how lacking in depth the whole thing is, it all feels incredibly wet.
To sum up, it's a film that's relentlessly morbid yet only occasionally disturbing, that's incredibly pretentious yet nauseatingly shallow all at the same time - yuck!
The impressive direction and a handful of good performances (most prominently from Robert Pattinson) are the only saving graces here. By far and away, this is one of the worst films with a fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
An Underrated Alternative: A Cure for Wellness (2018) - While Devil is one of the worst films with a fresh score on RT, this visually stunning and fascinatingly weird horror flick is easily one of the best movies with a rotten score on the site.
