15 Most Underrated Western Films Of All Time

6. The Quick And The Dead

The Quick And The Dead Leonardo DiCaprio
TriStar Pictures

Evil Dead II director Sam Raimi may seem like an unlikely choice to film this 1995 western, but then the Spiderman director also hired a baby-faced Leonardo DiCaprio to play the hero in this one, so it’s fair to say no one involved is sticking to their comfort zone.

A manic, strange, and sometimes agreeably silly cartoon of a western, this one is filled with explosive gunplay and dazzling camerawork which could give Sergio Leone himself, the film’s obvious inspiration, a run for his money. All in all, it’s mile-a-minute ride whose conventional plot is elevated by sterling performances from Gene Hackman and Russell Crowe, not to mention the young Mr. DiCaprio.
