The Original: 2000's cult sci-fi horror Pitch Black was a minor commercial success, and in the wake of Vin Diesel's box office stardom in other movies, led to the wildly over-budgeted 2004 sequel, The Chronicles of Riddick, which was a colossal box office bomb. Despite that failure, an unlikely third movie, simply titled Riddick, was released in 2013, after Diesel previously won the rights to the franchise by agreeing to cameo in 2006's The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Despite mixed reviews, Riddick was a moderate success on par with the original movie. The Sequel: Diesel announced last year that a fourth film was in the works, largely thanks to the unexpected success of Riddick on DVD. Little beyond that is known, and again, Diesel keeps himself plenty busy with the Fast and Furious movies, but if he can get Riddick made almost a decade after the previous movie bombed, then getting Riddick 4 made should be a walk in the park. Will It Be Any Good?: None of the Riddick films have been great or terrible to date, so it's really a question of whether it's going to be decent or just mediocre. It really could go either way.
