The Original: 2010's remake of the 80s classic was met with much derision ahead of release, though opened to unexpectedly strong reviews and made an astonishing $359 million at the box office against a $40 million budget. Jackie Chan's performance was especially praised, and as insufferable as he might be these days, a younger Jaden Smith actually showed some solid acting promise. The Sequel: A second movie has been talked up for years, and last year, the hunt was still ongoing to find a director after Breck Eisner bailed from the project. Chan and Smith are both confirmed to return. Will It Be Any Good?: Probably not. Given that at least six or seven years will have passed by the time the second movie comes out, will audiences really even remember the remake? Plus, Jaden Smith isn't the cute young kid he once was, and given that the Internet has spent the last few years ridiculing him for his ridiculous Twitter account, it seems unlikely that it could replicate the success of the first film. Had they struck while the iron was hot and made it 3 years ago, then maybe, but by now it's probably best to just leave it be.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
