15 Movies You Didn't Know Were Remakes

12. Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

The Remake: The hit 1993 movie about two dogs (Michael J. Fox and Don Ameche) and a cat (Sally Field) who escape from a ranch to seek out their owners in San Francisco, heading out on a perilous journey of discovery and friendship. It wasn't nominated for any Oscars, but it sure is a classic for kids the world over. The Original: The first adaptation of Sheila Burnford's 1961 novel came with 1963's The Incredible Journey, which follows the book more closely than the remake, and doesn't feature celebrity voice-overs for the animals either. The core plot is the same in both movies, but the original is more under-stated and received a similarly rapturous response upon release. Which One Is Better?: This is a really tough one. The remake is much more well-known and the voice-overs will add a layer of fun for kids, but for children patient enough to sit through "old" films, the 1963 one can measure up to it just fine. You can't go too wrong with either one, to be honest.
