15 Movies You Won’t Believe Are 20 Years Old
3. Con Air
Say what you want about Con Air (and plenty have)
but as far as completely over the top, totally demented action films go it’s
absolutely bloody brilliant. With a plot as crazed as most of its characters,
the movie starred Nicolas Cage as recently released good guy convict Cameron
Poe who finds himself travelling via a plane packed with America’s most dangerous
criminals en route to freedom and to meet his daughter for the first time.
It’s definitely one of Cage’s better roles and made even better by a supporting cast that includes brilliant turns from Steve Buscemi as strangely likeable serial killer Garland Greene and a typically hammy John Malkovich as psychotic criminal mastermind Cyrus ‘The Virus’ Grissom.
Yes, it might not be the greatest movie ever made and it did indeed scoop a Razzie (for Worst Reckless Disregard for Human Life and Public Property for its insane action sequences), but as long as you don’t think too deeply about it, Con Air is the perfect guilty pleasure action flick.
