4. The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Officially the second highest grossing film of 1997, Steven Spielberg’s follow up to his 1993 mega hit Jurassic Park was released just in time for the summer blockbuster season and raked in a not too shabby $618.6 million – not quite as successful as its predecessor, but perfectly respectable takings nonetheless.

While the second instalment in the Jurassic Park series came on in leaps and bounds in terms of its visual effects and introduced a whole host of new cloned dino characters it was kind of lacking in the human character department and only featured one returning main cast member, Jeff Goldblum as leather jacket-wearing rock star mathematician Dr Ian Malcolm.

It did, however, kickstart what’s shaping to be a hugely successful franchise after its revival with 2015’s Jurassic World. The next instalment in the franchise, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, is set for a summer 2018 release.
