2013 blockbuster Iron Man 3 may have divided opinion, but it did one very significant thing: it gave writer-director Shane Black a billion dollar box office smash, boosting him way up into the big time. This has enabled the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang filmmaker to get back to doing what he does best: witty, hard-edged detective stories stuffed with manly men and razor-sharp dialogue.

This is very much what fans are anticipating from this 1970s-set comedy thriller, which teams a bullish Russell Crowe with a wiry Ryan Gosling and turns them loose on a mystery which proves to go way further than they thought. Expect madcap action and colourful profanity in abundance.
