12. Nick Fury Killed Alexander Pierce - Captain America: The Winter Soldier

After the hugely charismatic Alexander Pierce is revealed as the head of HYDRA's infiltration into SHIELD and the nefarious Project Insight, Captain America is forced to turn on his old paymasters - along with Black Widow, Falcon and Nick Fury - and leak all of HYDRA's secrets to the world.

And while Cap is off taking down the Helicarriers that were closing in on Project Insight's key targets, Pierce makes a desperate ploy for freedom, killing the World Council and threatening to kill Black Widow to coerce Nick Fury into letting his escape. But marking her development as a "team player" who has cast off her toxic past, Widow sacrifices herself by electrocuting the mini-bomb attached to her by Pierce and knocks herself unconscious.

Fury's the kind of character to have killed before (after all Pierce calls him the most ruthless man he's ever met), but this is pretty much the only time we actually see him kill someone on-screen as he fires two shots into Pierce's chest.
