15 Unbelievably Hideous Horror Movie Sequels

13. Spiral

Saw V Strahm
Toho

Time for an ultra-obscure film that most won't have seen.

This sequel was filmed and released at the same time as Ring, yet it had different directors and writers and only a couple of the same cast members. This was a terrible release strategy and unsurprisingly this was such a bomb it was ret-conned out of existence and another sequel was made instead.

This one is an obscure film that's not worth seeking out. For starters, as a sequel it just doesn't work. The characters from Ring are mishandled, the tape barely appears, it goes in a radically different direction and worst of all, Sadako is now sexualized and not at all scary.

To make matters worse, while the acting is good the script is a confusing, turgid mess and it's woefully short on scares or thrills. Overall, it's an inferior follow-up to a masterpiece and one should just watch 1999's Ring 2 instead, which is certainly superior.
