15 Worst Horror Films Of The 21st Century (So Far)

11. One Missed Call

One Missed Call
Warner Bros. Pictures
After the success of the American remake of The Ring, every single Japanese horror film had to be redone in English for some reason, and One Missed Call is the absolute worst of the bunch. In this 2008 film, four people die after receiving mysterious phone calls. Beth tries to figure out what's going on, and she's able to trace the curse back to the spooky ghost of an abusive mother named Marie. But wait, it turns out Marie's ghost was actually protecting Beth, not trying to kill her. All of the abuse was one of the kids hurting the other, and the mother thing was just a fake out. So hang on, why was that kid harming her sister? What's with the ghosts everyone sees before they die? Are they just random ghosts? Why are these people picked to die specifically? None of that is made clear, because in addition to the dialogue being downright embarrassing, the movie just throws vaguely scary things out there and doesn't care if they add up. The ending sucks too: even after Ellie's spirit is defeated, it just comes back again moments later for some reason, and so the entire film was a waste of time.
