16 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Matrix Trilogy

1. The Storyline Is Continued In A Really, Really Bad Video Game

In early 2005, The Matrix Online video game was finally released on the PC, promoting itself largely on the fact that it would extend the story of the movie franchise. Though it certainly did this, with the most significant plot development being the apparent murder of Morpheus, the game was basically a pile of hot garbage, and after little more than four years in operation, The Matrix Online was shut down with a mass-extinction event. You can't fault the Wachowskis for their ambition in attempting to transmute their successful concept to a new medium, but it fell horribly flat, and with the ever-looming prospect of more movie sequels in the future, leaves some Matrix fans anxious as to whether the game's events would be incorporated (the likely and hopeful answer: probably not). In short, a limited comic book series is a much better idea than an MMO video game, and in the case of The Matrix Online, deciding to release the same year as World of Warcraft sure didn't help.
