16 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Matrix Trilogy

15. The Superman Problem

An unavoidable problem of a movie series in which the protagonist is a God-like, almost unstoppable beast of a hero is that it's just not particularly tense watching him fight. Though Reloaded in particular boasts a number of outstanding fight scenes, the fancy choreography is somewhat undermined by the fact that Neo can clearly wipe out most of these punks in his sleep, but for our entertainment benefit, an elongated series of fight scenes take place because...why not? The original Matrix movie didn't have this problem because Neo was still learning, and the final fight with Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) in Revolutions, though silly, at least has him fighting a worthy enemy. However, even during the Burly Brawl in Reloaded, Neo doesn't exactly struggle against like 100 Smiths, and when they pile on top of him, he can hurl all of them off with just a fair exertion of force. Oh, and he can fly, too. It's the equivalent of watching a buddy play a video game they're really, really good at: it looks cool and all, but there's no tension or visceral involvement whatsoever.
