18 Absolute Weirdest Movies In Existence

9. Altered States

A movie about the psychoactive drug experiments of real life scientist John C. Lilly, who delved into the subconscious landscapes of the disassociative drug ketamine and the psychedelic LSD is bound to be a little bit on the strange side - throw in Ken Russell as director and you're guaranteed a uniquely weird experience. Russell and his cast don't disappoint - William Hurt takes on the title role in his big screen debut as the scientist experimenting with sensory deprivation in a flotation tank who starts to experience strange visions. These altered states start to change more than just his mind, as his physical form also begins to change, devolving to primitive man then to a primordial mass of consciousness. The effects might look somewhat dated today, but this only adds to the movies bizarre charm.
