18 Great Actors Totally Wasted In James Bond Movies

15. John Cleese

Played: Q, formerly the assistant to the previous Q (Desmond Llewellyn) in The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day.

It might be easy for some to forget that John Cleese, one of the most legendary British comedians of them all, was even in James Bond and that speaks to just how short his time in the franchise was.

Given how wonderful Desmond Llewellyn was as Q, it was always going to be hard to accept anyone else as the character but to the franchise's credit, it has given us two very worthy successors. Unfortunately, while Ben Whishaw has had loads to do and has been utilized very nicely indeed, John Cleese's tenure was all-too-brief.

He had a very small role as Q's assistant in The World is Not Enough, Llewellyn's final film, and then got a proper scene as the new Q in Die Another Day. He did very well in the part, as you'd expect, and he was as funny as ever, but then he just left after this film, since this was the last film before the Daniel Craig reboot. It's a damn shame he wasn't able to stick around for longer, as he was actually a very good Q.
