7. Edgar Wright Departs Ant-Man Over "Creative Differences" With Marvel
Marvel shocked the world in May when they announced that Edgar Wright had departed from the director's chair of their long-awaited Ant-Man movie, due to "differences in their vision of the film". This led to a frantic period as Marvel searched for a new director, with many being considered but ultimately pulling out, until they landed on Peyton Reed (Bring It On, The Break-Up, Yes Man), a bizarre choice given his near-total lack of experience directing action. Anchorman writer-director Adam McKay was also confirmed to be punching up Joe Cornish and Wright's draft of the script. In the months since Wright quit the film, reports have emerged that the dispute revolved largely around Marvel's insistence that he write more MCU-focused franchise material into the script rather than keeping it mostly standalone. As Simon Pegg said, though, it's Marvel's loss at the end of the day.
