12. Star Wars Episode VII Cast Announced, Rian Johnson To Write & Direct Episode VIII, 3 Standalone Movies In The Works
One of the most anticipated casting announcements in movie history came in April, as the full cast for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was revealed. In addition to the likes of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Kenny Baker, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Warwick Davis returning, the new cast includes up-and-comers John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, alongside Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Greg Grunberg, Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie. In short, it's an absolutely insane cast, and then, in June, the announcement followed that Looper director Rian Johnson would write and direct Episode VIII, while also writing a treatment for Episode IX. And if that's not awesome enough, throughout the year reports came in regarding three standalone Star Wars films, including a Boba Fett film (reportedly written by Lawrence Kasdan and directed by Gareth Edwards), while Josh Trank will direct another film (possibly Han Solo), and potential protagonists for a third include Yoda and Darth Maul. What a time to be alive!
