18 Things You Somehow Missed In Reservoir Dogs

4. Conversations In The Mirror

The connection between Mr. Orange and Mr. White may have felt like it came completely out of nowhere when the opening credits led straight into their chaotic car ride back to the warehouse, but this was integral to the movie.

This was the emotion and the heart of the film, and if it weren’t for Mr. White’s devout defence of the younger man, the movie would likely have been over a lot quicker. It’s never fully explored as to why White felt such a connection to Orange, but they did have a lot in common.

Aside from being fearless, though operating on opposite sides of the law, the two had a similar relationship with themselves, in that they sought some sort of comfort, confidence, or reassurance from talking to the mirror.

For Mr. White it was when he was telling Mr. Pink about the last job he had that was infiltrated by an undercover cop, while for Mr. Orange it was about psyching himself up before he went to meet for the actual job. It truly did feel like Orange and White had a strong father/son dynamic, and this, though possibly subliminally, went some way to reinforcing that.
