9. Seven - The Sloth Victim Awakens
Seven is another '90s film that just keeps finding new ways to harrow its audience senseless, and it's another one where many moments could've made this list. Having said that, there's nothing quite as shocking as the discovery of the Sloth victim, which is one of the most shocking jump scares ever.
When detectives William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) and David Mills (Brad Pitt) arrive on the scene of the latest victim of the killer they're pursuing, they get the mother of all shocks. The killer is murdering those whom he deems unfit to live, and he's basing each killing on one of the seven deadly sins. They find his third victim, a drug dealer and paedophile named Theodore Allen (Michael Reid MacKay), strapped to a bed and emaciated. Mills and Somerset discover photos dating back a year, revealing that their killer has been active for much longer than they assumed.
And then, just as a police officer tells the corpse that he got what he deserved... the body on the bed springs to life, for he isn't dead at all. It's likely many viewers nearly wet themselves when they first saw this.
The killer has kept this man alive and bedbound for an entire year, destroying his body and mind to the extent that even shining a flashlight in his eyes would bring about a fatal shock. Sure, Theodore was obviously a vile man, but does anyone deserve that? This movie is so messed up, but we love it all the same.
