20 Actors Who Died In 2020

7. Olivia De Havilland

Black Panther Chadwick Boseman
MGM

An undeniable legend of Hollywood's Golden Age and one of its last remaining survivors, Olivia de Havilland's signature role is surely that of Melanie Hamilton in 1939's Gone with the Wind, for which she received her first of five Oscar nominations, winning two Best Actress awards for To Each His Own and The Heiress.

De Havilland is synonymous with Hollywood royalty and had a supposedly torrid relationship with her sister Joan Fontaine, yet was also celebrated for fighting for the rights of contract players to have greater freedom during their careers.

Famously, she won a lawsuit against Warner Bros. in 1944 after they attempted to extend her contract.

De Havilland retired in 1988, and died of natural causes on July 26 at the age of 104.
