Initially conceived as a strong, non-sexist character called the Cat who would appeal to female readers, the entirely human Greer Nelson was quickly changed into a cat-woman clad only in a bikini to boost sales. Such is the way of things in comics, I guess. Tigra beat Starfox to joining the Avengers by only a year but unlike the Titan has remained popular and still crops up in Marvel comics today. There are at least two good reasons for that: her revealing attire and the large number of male comics buyers. As an aside, there was another hero who joined the official roster in the exact same issue of the Avengers comic as Tigra (issue 211, if you're interested): the female android created by Ultron, Jocasta. Now that Ultron has been introduced in the MCU, his attempted bride and eventual foe could be brought into the franchise. Like Tigra, Jocasta is always depicted as distinctly top heavy; but, unlike Tigra, her metallic form is shown without even the pretence of clothing. Why she won't be in the Avengers movies: There's just no getting away from it, Tigra's a cat-woman in an extremely skimpy bikini. There's no way she could be included in a film without critics howling about the needless sexualisation of women. And they'd probably have a point. But, still, she's always made male readers of Avengers comics very happy indeed. Having said all that, is she any more exploitative than Mystique in the X-Men films?
