20 Awesome Horror Movies That Never Got Sequels
8. Cure
Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cure is one of the most atmospheric and unforgettable horror films of the last 30 years - a brilliantly inventive riff on the typical serial killer movie formula, and one which cinephiles are continuing to discover in droves to this very day.
Though Cure's story reaches a satisfying conclusion, the ambiguous final scene also leaves the door open, suggesting that the villain's influence continues to be felt after the end credits roll.
And so, Cure 2 could've absolutely been made, even if the ever-prolific Kurosawa was seemingly eager to work on other projects, given that he released six films in the five years following Cure's release.
More to the point, one of these films was 2001's Pulse - a techno-horror which has often been dubbed a companion piece to Cure given its similarly dread-soaked style and tone.
It's likely for the best, because a direct sequel to Cure would pose the risk of undermining the original's quite literally mesmeric ending.
