20 Awesome Recent Horror Movies You'll Never Watch Again
11. Azrael
Arguably one of the more underappreciated mainstream horror films of recent times, Azrael is a fascinatingly experimental action-horror film starring Samara Weaving as a woman who escapes a brutal cult which believes that speech is a sin.
Azrael's big, juicy hook is that the film unfolds with almost no dialogue whatsoever, and while this certainly represents a challenge for director E. L. Katz, he lucked out by landing Weaving as his leading lady.
Though Katz rustles up a compellingly dread-soaked atmosphere, it's Weaving whose gutsy, dialogue-free performance is likely to hold your attention throughout, further confirming her to be one of the modern era's very best scream queens - even with the distinct lack of screaming in this one.
Yet Azrael's sparse approach doesn't really lend itself to many, if any, rewatches - you're likely to fully get it on a single viewing and be quite content to move on.
