10. Jimmy & Stiggs

Jimmy and Stiggs is the latest oddball concoction from iconoclastic genre filmmaker Joe Begos, best known for Bliss, VFW, and Christmas Bloody Christmas.

And while it's a fundamentally not-for-everyone outing, Begos once again delivers a visually hypnotic ride, this time starring himself as Jimmy, a filmmaker who reunites with his pal Stiggs (Matt Mercer) to fend off an alien invasion in his apartment.

Begos shot the entire film in his actual apartment over the span of four years with a shoestring budget and tiny crew, and it in turn serves as a testament to what creative filmmakers can achieve at the DIY level.

But it's also fair to say that Begos' film is unapologetically brash, effectively boiling down to two characters shouting and swearing at each other for 79 minutes while periodically battling aliens.

And so it's hardly a movie most are likely to subject themselves to twice, given that it's a lot like showing up to a party dead sober where everyone else is trashed

Fun and charming to a point, but not something you'd want to put yourself through often.
