14. A Quiet Place Part II

The Night House
Paramount

A Quiet Place Part II didn't manage to touch the greatness of its predecessor, but still delivered an accomplished and worthwhile sequel that unsurprisingly set the stage for a third and probably final installment.

Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe are once again terrific as the principal surviving members of a family unit desperately trying to stay alive - and quiet! - amid an alien invasion.

John Krasinski confirms the original film was no directing fluke with another tightly wound, creative horror film that finds its feet during moments of white-knuckle quiet, as audiences wait with bated breath for the extraterrestrial creatures to strike once more.

It's all beautifully filmed and impressively acted, though the inspired pièce de résistance was surely adding Cillian Murphy to the cast as fellow survivor Emmett.

Horror sequels rarely get anywhere close to what came before, so that A Quiet Place Part II manages to feel like a fairly necessary middle entry into the story is all the more to its credit.
