20 Best Movie Blu-Rays Of 2016
9. Hell Or High Water
Released this year to a wave of rave reviews, David
Mackenzie’s gritty neo-Western raked in an impressive box office profits for an
independent movie and became the sleeper hit of the summer. Starring Chris Pine
and Ben Fosters as brothers who carry out a series of bank heists in the barren
wastelands of west Texas to save their family’s ranch, the movie also features
star-turns from Jeff Bridges and Gil Birmingham as the veteran Texas Rangers
out to apprehend them.
Hell or High Water’s stunning cinematography translates beautifully to Blu-ray and a featurette titled ‘Visualising the Heart of America’ sees Mackenzie and cinematographer Giles Nuttgens discuss how they used filming locations to bring the movie to life. Further featurettes focus on character development and cast performances and though there is no audio commentary included, a filmmaker Q&A with director and cast moderated by Time Magazine editor Sam Lansky offers more insight into the production process.
