20 Best Movie Blu-Rays Of 2016
16. Valley Of The Dolls
Add a bit of kitsch to your Blu-ray collection with
Criterion’s new release of the 1967 cult classic Valley of the Dolls. Based on
the Jacqueline Susann novel of the same name the so-bad-it’s-good movie follows
three drugged-up starlets over the course of their careers to their eventual
self-destruction and is more quintessentially 1960s than a pair of bell bottom
pants.
The Criterion Collection Blu-ray includes plenty of extras carried over from previous releases like a deliciously juicy audio commentary with Valley of the Dolls star Barbara Perkins and gossip columnist Ted Casablanca and features brand new cover art by painter and comic book artist Phil Noto. Other new features include an interview with writer and fashion expert Amy Fine Collins about the movie’s iconic costume design and a video essay by film critic Kim Morgan, plus a 30-page booklet featuring an essay by critic Glenn Kenny accompanied by some gorgeous Valley of the Dolls related photography.
