20 Best Movie Blu-Rays Of 2016
17. Finding Dory
Disney Pixar’s billion-dollar animated blockbuster became
one of this summer’s best-loved and most critically acclaimed movies. The
long-awaited sequel to 2003’s Finding Nemo, the film picks up with forgetful
fish Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) on a quest to find her long-lost parents.
Beautifully animated throughout, it’s hotly tipped as a contender for Best
Animated Feature at the Oscars next year, and thankfully none of its animation
suffers transferring the film to the small screen via Blu-ray.
There’s a tonne of charming extras included with the Blu-ray too including an audio commentary with director-writer Andrew Stanton, co-director Angus MacLane and producer Lindsey Collins that offers insight on their decision to resurrect Dory 13 years after Finding Nemo came out and featurettes detailing how the movie’s animation team brought its characters to life. Best of all the Blu-ray includes Piper, the theatrical short shown before Finding Dory during its cinema run. Starring a baby sandpiper bird that leaves her nest for the first time, the beautifully realistic six-minute short was crafted by animator Alan Barillaro using cutting-edge technology over the course of three years and just so happens to be the cutest thing ever.
