Revenge Matilda Lutz
Neon

Possibly the smartest, most visually impressive and best-acted entry into the dubious rape-revenge subgenre, Revenge benefits enormously from writer-director Coralie Fargeat's aggressively feminist reinvention of the trashy genre.

As a rape victim who eventually turns the tables on the men responsible, Matilda Lutz is a revelation, delivering a vulnerable, raw and gutsy performance which sees her transformed from sex object to vengeful soldier.

Lutz is also aided by eye-wateringly beautiful cinematography, some agreeably revolting gore effects and a cracking supporting cast.

You'll need a strong stomach to make it all the way to the end, but those who do will be rewarded with a nerve-shreddingly suspenseful, intensely satisfying gorefest.
