Though falling a little short of its initial awards hype, Paul Greengrass' dramatisation of the 2011 Norway attacks is another gritty, journalistic docu-drama from the acclaimed filmmaker.

Anders Danielsen Lie gives a remarkable performance as perpetrator Anders Breivik, though Greengrass smartly trains most of his focus on the victims of the attacks, allowing July 22 to function as both a tense drama and a touching tribute to the fallen and survivors alike.

At 143 minutes in length it definitely outstays its welcome somewhat, but the sheer visceral pull of the true story can't help but make July 22 a compulsive sit.

Not one of Greengrass' best movies, but a solidly accessible effort for English language audiences.
