Chiwetel Ejiofor gives a fantastically committed performance as disgraced Christian minister Carlton Pearson in this drama about Pearson's shunning by his church for declaring that Hell does not exist.

Chiwetel's strong turn - with fine supporting work from Martin Sheen, Jason Segel, Danny Glover and Lakeith Stanfield - rises above Joshua Marston's rather workmanlike direction to deliver an engrossing, provocative character study.

Marcus Hinchey's script meanwhile ably riffs on the complexities of faith and what it means to be a "good Christian", and like the best faith-based films it's more about humanity than God.

Regardless of your own religious convictions (or lack thereof), Come Sunday offers up plenty of rich food-for-thought.
