20 Best Performances In The Wizarding World Franchise

8. Maggie Smith - Minerva McGonagall

Harry Potter Voldemort
Warner Bros.

Another performance, another perfect piece of casting. The British acting legend that is Dame Maggie Smith was one of the best choices imaginable for Minerva McGonagall.

She was stern and had a clear no-nonsense attitude, yet she was also extremely likeable and sympathetic, meaning that Smith flawlessly encapsulated what made McGonagall such a good character in the books. Her Scottish accent was right on-point too.

Another particularly great side to Smith's performance is that, on occasions such as standing up to Umbridge or duelling Professor Snape, she was a huge badass and it was hard not to cheer for her in these moments. McGonagall isn't a character who affects the plot all that much, but she was still a fabulous presence throughout thanks to Maggie Smith.
