7. David Thewlis - Remus Lupin

Harry Potter Voldemort
Warner Bros.

Remus Lupin, the hugely compelling werewolf who was arguably one of the series' most interesting characters, was under-used in the films and faded into the background after the third one. Still, David Thewlis was another perfect casting choice and made every second count.

Thewlis absolutely nailed Remus Lupin. He was world-weary and haunted, yet also kind and compassionate, therefore bringing exactly the right mixture of sadness and charisma Lupin needed. He made for an enormously compelling on-screen friend to Harry throughout the films and his death in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was very hard to deal with.

Thanks to how good he was as Lupin, Thewlis is another one of those actors where, if a Harry Potter TV series is ever made, it'd be very hard to imagine anyone else as Lupin.
