20 Best Performances In The Wizarding World Franchise

6. Gary Oldman - Sirius Black

Harry Potter Voldemort
Warner Bros. Pictures

Gary Oldman was a surprising choice to play Sirius Black, since he's known for louder and more villainous roles; nevertheless, against the odds, he was fantastic as Sirius and possibly even better than the book version.

Despite his skill at doing showier parts, Gary Oldman gave an understated and warm performance as Sirius Black that made him one of the most loveable and sympathetic characters in the entire film series. This is one of the main reasons why his death in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was so damn traumatic.

He still did a great job at showing Sirius' trauma and anger in the third film though. In general, Oldman enlivened the films he was in to no end and was another one of the performers who lent the films the most heart.
