Best: Before Sunrise (1995) Almost 20 years before Richard Linklater's startlingly grand opus was released, he teamed up with one of his muses to tell this irresistible, distinctly philosophical romance. It's breathtakingly infectious, and frankly, it's films like this and Boyhood that suggest that Hawke should have fired whoever it is who's been convincing him to take on 90% of his other work a long time ago. If there's a better pick-up movie in the world, you'll struggle to find it. Worst: Getaway (2013) If you picked up a paint by numbers painting of a paint by numbers film, it would probably be dedicated to Getaway. In this drab, offensively boring "action thriller", Hawke plays Trent Magna, a washed up race driver straight out of the Nic Cage book of Relatable Everyman Action Heroes. And it's terrible.
