20 Best & Worst Movies From 2018 Oscar Nominees
16. Timothée Chalamet
Best: Call Me by Your Name (2017)
Though it has inevitably triggered a lot of right-wing outrage-mongers, Call Me By Your Name is an important, beautifully affecting portrait of first love, and it soars precisely because of the strength of its performances. Armie Hammer and Michael Stuhlbarg are excellent, but it's Timothée Chalamet who inevitably emerges with the most praise.
He is flawless as the young lead, who we watch dance with Armie Hammer's elder romantic interest and his impossible, unspeakable desires. It's a true revelation of a performance.
Worst: Love The Coopers (2015)
Hollywood seems to have a problem making good Christmas movies these days, and Love The Coopers is definitely one of the more mediocre offerings of the decade. Despite a good cast - of which Chalamet is admittedly a small part - and some good moments of emotion, it's hampered by a terrible, cloying script and the fact that it's deeply unmemorable.
