20 Biggest Blockbuster Movie Showdowns Of All Time

11. Dragonball Z - The Matrix Revolutions (2003)

The final showdown between Neo and Agent Smith isn't the best action sequence in the Matrix trilogy by any means; the lobby shootout and subway fight from the first movie along with the freeway chase and Burly Brawl from the sequel, and even the assault on Zion from this movie are all arguably better, but in terms of scale it is most definitely the biggest. Although it may play like the most expensive Dragonball Z tribute ever filmed, it at least offers a suitably epic conclusion after two crushingly disappointing movies loaded with tedious philosophical nonsense. The production team had their work cut out for them in creating this sequence; it took two months to design a machine that would deliver 'the perfect raindrop', and a 360 degree rotating apparatus had to be specially constructed for shots of Neo and Agent Smith fighting in the air. The epic battle certainly plays up the former Thomas Anderson's 'Jesus meets Superman' credentials, as he is equally adept at close-quarters combat as he is flying at his enemy at supersonic speed. Mixing CGI, practical effects and wire-work to create a technically flawless fight scene in a narratively flawed movie, the Wachowskis' ambition ultimately exceeded their reach when it came to the Matrix trilogy but at least it finished with a bang rather than a whimper.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
