20 Biggest Blockbuster Movie Showdowns Of All Time
7. Collateral Damage - Man Of Steel (2013)
Zack Snyder's Superman reboot turned out to be a hugely divisive movie when it was released last year, grossing $668m at the box office but still coming in for a huge amount of criticism. With the emphasis now focused on establishing the greater DC Cinematic Universe at the expense of more solo adventures for Krypton's favorite son, it remains to be seen whether Batman V Superman or Justice League can overcome the narrative and dialogue problems that plagued Man of Steel. One thing the movie did provide was massive-scale set-pieces, with the biggest coming in the form of Superman's city-leveling final confrontation with General Zod. While the conclusion to their super-powered showdown generated plenty of debate thanks to Kal-El's neck-snapping shenanigans, the rest of the extended battle is absolutely packed with jaw-dropping spectacle. The two Kryptonians cause incalculable damage, destroying numerous skyscrapers and surely knocking off more than a few hundred civilians in the process (even though Laurence Fishburne's Perry White is somehow capable of outrunning a collapsing building). The $225m budget is right up there on the screen as Zack Snyder applies his visual style to the sustained carnage of Superman and his nemesis tearing through Metropolis, causing devastation on a larger scale than any comic book movie had ever presented.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
