Even fans of James Bond tend to be in agreement that Quantum of Solace was a far cry from the great heights the series can sometimes reach. Whether or not we can blame the writers' strike at the time is a moot point - the fact remains that it is subpar Bond with long tedious stretches and an unengaging plot. Which is a shame, because the opening chase scene along dangerously winding cliff-side roads is one of the best directed and coordinated in the history of the series. What it lacks in showy stunts it more than makes up for in some truly precise driving and vertiginous corner-taking with sporadic bursts of machine gun fire thrown in for good measure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfYC_CBNtiM
