1. Quicksilver Lives Up To His Name - X-Men: Days Of Future Past
When images first emerged of Evan Peters as Quicksilver, everybody let out a collective chuckle. He looked like some weird hipster in a metal coloured wig. Many fans went online immediately and let their disdain be heard via comic book movie forums and comment boxes (on sites like the one youre reading now). However, Peters rendition of Quicksilver turned out to be the highlight of Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days Of Future Past in many ways, depicting him as a quick-witted, fun-loving young man who makes fast friends with Wolverine after he recruits him to break Magneto out of the Pentagon. Quicksilvers subsequent action scene is easily the best set-piece of the movie: as himself, Xavier, Magneto and Wolverine prepare to exit the building, theyre attacked by a number of armed guards, who open fire at them. What follows is a marvelously funny scene in which Quicksilver uses his powers of supersonic speed to run around the room, moving the trajectory of traveling bullets and causing the guards to end up incapacitating themselves - all to the smooth vocal stylings of Jim Croces Time In A Bottle. The slow motion scene is so aesthetically cool that a gaping plot hole has been (for the most part) disregarded by fans: How, in 1973, did Quicksilver possess that Croce-playing Walkman in the first place, given that the technology didnt come to light until the 80s? And how does the music keep speed with him? Yeah, it doesn't matter. What would you consider to be the most epic movie moment of 2014? Let us know in the comment section below.
